Delivering housing led regeneration projects – SURF Award Shared Learning Event

Organised by: SURF

10.00-14.00

Riddles Court, 322 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2PG

A SURF Awards Shared Learning Event featuring the 3 projects shortlisted in the 2024 Housing and Regeneration category.

This free half-day SURF Awards workshop event in the Riddles Court, Edinburgh on 1st May provides an opportunity to explore successful approaches to housing led regeneration initiatives providing wider community outcomes. The winning and highly commended projects from the ‘Housing and Regeneration’ category highlighted in the 2024 SURF Awards process will provide comment on their experiences and transferable learning.

Overview

Workshop guests will firstly hear from a project representative from the ‘Housing and Regeneration’ category winner Kirkhope Steading. Situated in the Scottish Borders, the development saw the purchase and conversion of a disused stone farm steading into five affordable homes for rent and a business unit with four workshop spaces and three office spaces.

This will be followed by the ‘Housing and Regeneration’ highly commended project Water Row Phase 1. The project, in Govan, has transformed the underutilised Water Row site into a vibrant, inclusive neighbourhood that serves both current and future generations.

Finally, guests will hear from the ‘Housing and Regeneration’ highly commended project An Faire Mor Housing. Located on the island of Colonsay, this initial phase of the development contains two houses for low-cost home ownership, four houses for affordable rent and two business units.

The event will close with a chaired panel discussion on wider policy issues, featuring the Scottish Procurement Alliance, the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations and the Scottish Housing Network.

The SURF Awards ‘Housing and Regeneration’ judging panel team – comprising representatives of INCH Architecture, Clyde Gateway, Scottish Government More Homes Division and the Scottish Procurement Alliance – were particularly impressed by the level of ambition and wider regeneration benefits of each of the three shortlisted projects.

This workshop will be delivered with support from Scottish Procurement Alliance.
