Creativity in regeneration: SURF Awards Shared Learning Event

Organised by: SURF

10.00-14.00

Glasgow Women's Library, 23 Landressy St, Bridgeton, Glasgow G40 1BP

A SURF Awards Shared Learning Event featuring projects shortlisted in the 2024 Creative Regeneration category.

This free half-day SURF Awards workshop event in Glasgow Women’s Library, Glasgow on 22nd May provides an opportunity to explore successful approaches towards linking creative arts and culture into regeneration initiatives. The winning and highly commended projects from the ‘Creative Regeneration’ category highlighted in the 2024 SURF Awards process will provide comment on their experiences and transferable learning.

Overview

Workshop guests will firstly hear from a project representative from the ‘Creative Regeneration’ category winner Narture CIC, who is transforming empty, run-down properties into vibrant creative hubs. Breathing new life into neglected areas, revitalising not just the appearance of the town but also its community spirit and economic prospects.

Guests will then hear from highly commended Creative Recovery Inverclyde. An arts initiative embedded within the Your Voice’s Lived Experience Network, specifically designed for individuals in recovery from alcohol and drug misuse

Finally, guests will then hear from the second of the highly commended projects the Music Broth. The team restore and repair instruments for the Music Broth circular economy sharing library, to be distributed and loved by new hands, especially those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access music.

The event will close with a chaired panel discussion on wider policy issues, Creative Scotland and Culture Counts.

The SURF Awards ‘Creative Regeneration’ judging panel team – comprising representatives of Creative Scotland, Creative Lives, Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre and West of Scotland Regional Equality Council – were particularly enthused by the projects ability to leave a lasting impact in their community within all three shortlisted projects in this category.

This workshop is being delivered with support from Creative Scotland.
