SURF’s Derek Rankine has contributed a feature article on the topic of supporting community resilience to the current issue of New Start Magazine.

In elaborating on some of the main outcomes from SURF’s 2011-12 ‘Reality, Resources, Resilience’ study – which investigated the impacts and responses relating to the development of the recession in two disadvantaged communities – Derek referred to positive examples including the GalGael project in Govan, the Templehall Dads Group in Kirkcaldy, and efforts by Fife Council and Glasgow Housing Association to tap into local knowledge and resources by increasing responsibilities for front-line staff. He also highlighted SURF’s plans to build on this project by creating an Alliance for Action.
