Looking specifically at US practice in community finance initiatives; effective organisational structures in community regeneration; involving the community in strategic development and operational delivery; and the role of physical regeneration as a catalyst for sustainable community involvement. Keynote speakers included Marc Jahr, Vice President of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, a body established in the US with the mission of assisting community development corporations in their efforts to transform distressed neighbourhoods into viable communities; Elizabeth Jackson, President of the International Downtown Association, a Washington based organisation which is a world leader of, and champion for, vital and liveable urban centres, with 600 members in 10 countries; Mel Young, International Director of The Big Issue in Scotland; and Bob Millar, the Chief Executive of Scottish Homes.
