SURF’s 2016 manifesto for the Scottish Parliament elections, based on 18 months’ of extensive cross-sector consultation and investigation, was launched this month.
It concludes with nine practical policies that would direct money and resources to where they could effect real change for addressing physical, social and economic challenges in deprived places.
The manifesto’s central proposals call for sustained investment in 15 strategic places of differing scale and geography, coupled with a statutory duty for public bodies to consider the impact on economic disadvantage of every spending decision.

The manifesto has been the subject of coverage in a number of media sources including on the BBC Scotland website, Good Morning Scotland (14 Jan edition), New Start Magazine, Common Space, and Scottish Housing News.
SURF is using the manifesto to urge all of the main political parties competing for seats in the 2016 Scottish elections to sign up to the recommendations. The proposals will also form the basis for a SURF network ‘Regeneration Question Time’ hustings event with leading politicians in Edinburgh on Thursday 7 April.
